Chekhov’s classic is here presented in a new version by Anya Reiss. Directed by Russell Bolam as part of Southwark Playhouse’s final season beneath the arches of London Bridge station, it stars Matthew Kelly and Lily James and runs until 1 December.


The Trojan Women

A new version of Euripides’s classic tragedy by poet Caroline Bird comes to the Gate Theatre, starring Louise Brealey. Directed by Christopher Haydon, it runs until 15 December.

The Effect

A new play from Lucy Prebble exploring questions of sanity, neurology and the limits of medicine. Directed by Rupert Goold in a co-production with Headlong, with cast including Billie Piper, it runs until 23 February 2013.


The Sleepwalk Collective
13 November 2012

Iara Solano Arana of Sleepwalk Collective samples and replays the
iconography of B-movies and early cinema in an
attempt to re-work cinematic and cultural clichés into something
heartfelt and profound. It runs at the Barbican Centre until 17 November.


L’elisir d’amore
13 November 2012

Laurent Pelly directes this production of Donizetti’s opera. A
1950s Italian village provides the backdrop to a tale of love’s twists
and turns. It runs at the Royal Opera House until 7 December.


Theatre Uncut
13 November 2012

Established in 2011 to encourage debate and galvanise action around political issues that affect all of our lives, Theatre Uncut features international playwrights responding to the current political situation. It runs at the Young Vic until 17 November.

The UK premiere of Marvin Hamlisch‘s musical Sweet Smell of Success opens at the Arcola Theatre. Directed by Mehmet Ergen, it runs until 22 December.

The Dark Earth and the Light Sky

Written by Nick Dear, The Dark Earth and the Light Sky delves into the life of poet Edward Thomas in an era of change and destruction. Directed by Richard Eyre, it runs at the Almeida theatre until 12 January 2013.

Constellations

Written by Nick Payne, Constellations is about free will and friendship. Starring Sally Hawkins and Rafe Spall, the play is a Royal Court transfer and plays at the Duke of York’s Theatre until 5 January 2013.

Richard III

Transferring from Shakespeare’s Globe and starring Mark Rylance as the eponymous King, Richard III runs at the Apollo Theatre until 3 February 2013.


Twelfth Night

Starring Stephen Fry and Mark Rylance, Twelfth Night sees Rylance reprise the role of Olivia he played ten years ago. Another Globe transfer, it runs at the Apollo Theatre until 10 February 2013.
