Cyndi Lauper will host a gala performance of her hit musical Kinky Boots this evening, as the Olivier Award-winning show announces its support for mental health charity Heads Together.

Spearheaded by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, Heads Together is a campaign to raise money for new services aimed at changing the conversation on mental health.

The show will be fundraising for Heads Together in multiple ways, including the option of donating on the Kinky Boots website and through bucket collections at the Adelphi Theatre.

On the initiative, Lauper said: "I am so proud that Kinky Boots will be supporting the Heads Together campaign. We should all be free to talk about how we're feeling – too often people are afraid to talk about their mental health.

"It's time to change this. Kinky Boots is a show which advocates acceptance; it teaches us to celebrate our differences and accept each other for who we are. Together, we can create a network of love and support for each other – to be open and kind and show that help is available to anyone seeking mental health support."

With music by Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein, Kinky Boots is based on the hit 2005 film with a screenplay by Tim Firth. It tells the story of Charlie Price, who inherits a suffering shoe factory. Following a meeting with drag queen Lola, Price starts embracing a more flamboyant business model.

The production recently announced an extension and is now booking until Saturday 5 January 2019.
