Jonathan Pryce Takes on Lear for Almeida in 2012???

Jonathan Pryce, whose extensive credits include Glengarry Glen Ross, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Caretaker may have been “convinced” to take on King Lear by Almeida artistic director Michael Attenborough. The Daily Mail‘s Baz Bamigboye reports he expects Pryce take on the role in more than a years time. The 2012 time frame apparently won’t stop he and Attenborough from visiting RADA in the near future in search of an Cordelia. Attenborough is quoted as saying he believes the Welsh stage and screen star has “extraordinary savagery as an actor – but he can be tender” going on to say “he’s my perfect Lear”. The paper also has Attenborough acknowledging the need for time to pass between Pryce’s outing as the King and Derek Jacobi‘s recently acclaimed Donmar performance – currently playing at BAM in New York.
