Frasier's Rubinek Gives Terrible Advice in Play Debut

Caroline Quentin, Andy Nyman and Pulling's Sharon Horgan will star in the world premiere of Terrible Advice, the debut play by Hollywood actor Saul Rubinek, which is helmed by Hollywood director (as well as Muppets co-creator and voice of Yoda) Frank Oz and runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 29 September to 12 November 2011 (previews from 22 September). Terrible Advice tickets will go on sale to the public this Thursday 14 July 2011.

Stanley (Stinky to his friends) and Jake are best friends. Hedda and Delila are best friends. Jake loves Hedda; Stinky loves Delila. Stinky plans to marry Delila….until Jake shares some secrets and then gives him some advice…

Born in Canada, where he was a member of Ontario’s Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Rubinek’s many screen credits include television for his role as Donny, Daphne’s fiancé on the Emmy award-winning Frasier (in which he played Daphne’s fiancé Donny) The Practice, Boston Legal, Stargate, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hill Street Blues, LA Law, NYPD Blue, Law and Order, Lost and currently Warehouse 13 on television; and Wall Street, Unforgiven and True Romance on film.

Director Frank Oz was known early in his career for his collaborations with Jim Henson on the Muppets, in which he performed characters including Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Animal. He also voiced Yoda in all of the Star Wars films. His directing credits include The Muppets Take Manhattan, Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, What About Bob, Indian in the Cupboard, Bowfinger, The Stepford Wives and the original Death at a Funeral.

In Terrible Advice, Quentin and Horgan play best friends Hedda and Delilah. Horgan is best known as Donna from Pulling, while her other TV credits include Rob Brydon’s Annually Retentive and Extras. Quentin’s many small screen credits include Men Behaving Badly, Jonathan Creek, Blue Murder and Life Begins, while on stage she’s been seen in Life After Scandal, The London Cuckolds, Roots and An Evening with Gary Lineker.

Nyman, who plays Stinky, is currently in the West End in Ghost Stories, which he co-wrote and co-directed. His other stage credits include Moonlight and Magnolias, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Merchant of Venice and Lust. The role of Jake is still to be cast.

Terrible Advice is designed by David Farley, with lighting by Paul Anderson and sound by David Ogilvy.
