Fisherman’s Friends singer dies following accident at Guildford theatre

Two men have died following an accident at the G Live theatre in Guildford at the weekend.

The incident happened on Saturday (9 February 2013) when a loading bay door trapped the two men during a get-in for Cornish singing group Fisherman’s Friends.

Tour manager Paul McMullen, 44, died at the scene while 54-year old singer Trevor Grills suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead last night (11 February).

The group posted a statement on their Facebook page calling Grills “a much loved and valued friend to all of us” and “an integral part of the Port Isaac community”. They added: “He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Trevor’s family at this very difficult time.”

Fisherman’s Friends, who hit headlines in 2010 when they signed a £1million record deal with Universal, had been scheduled to play G Live as part of a national tour, which has now been cancelled.

G Live director Alvin Hargreaves said: “We are devastated to hear this morning that Fisherman’s Friends band member Trevor Grills died in St Georges Hospital, Tooting, last night. This adds to our great sadness over the news on Saturday of Paul McMullen’s tragic death. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and community of Port Isaac.”
