Denise Van Outen plans 2013 premiere for solo musical?

Denise Van Outen has revealed plans to return to the West End with her new one-woman show.

In July we reported that Van Outen was working on a new musical similar in feeling to Tell Me On A Sunday by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which she starred in back in 2003.

Van Outen gave birth to her daughter Betsy in May 2010, and was last seen on the West End as Paulette in Legally Blonde in October of that year.

Speaking to the Evening Standard this week, she admitted “I think I threw myself back into work too quickly. I was trying to juggle everything. Women are good at multi-tasking but I needed to slow down a bit. You don’t have to be superhuman.”

She added that writing her one woman show – which she has describes as being “quite Shirley Valentine” – has marked a change of pace.

Van Outen is currently taking part in Strictly Come Dancing, as well as acting as the ambassador for the 2013 Tesco Mum of the Year Awards. She said, “I’m tailoring things around being a mum. I’m co-writing a one woman show with a friend of mine, which I do from home. That will be ready for next year and I hope to do a stint in the West End and then tour.”

Steve Anderson and Terry Ronald, who write music for Kylie Minogue, have joined the creative team to work on script and score.
