Cavalier Moves from Closed Cock to Jermyn St
The Cock Tavern’s production of Cavalier for Milady, which had its run interrupted by the Cock Tavern’s closure last week, will transfer for three-weeks at the Jermyn Street Theatre from 9 to 25 June (previews from 7 June 2011).
The play is directed by Jermyn Street’s artistic director Gene David Kirk, whose revival of Williams’ The Two-Character Play played the theatre in October 2010.
Cavalier for Milady features a cast of Lucinda Curtis, Gillian Hanna, Sam Marks, Janet Prince and Caitlin Thorburn, all of whom continue their roles from the aborted run.
One of Williams’ final written works (thought to have been completed in 1979, just four years before his death), Cavalier for Milady is billed as an outrageous and disturbing snapshot into the life of a young, troubled woman who spends her life dressed in children’s clothes, emotionally deprived, heavily medicated and sequestered from society. While her hedonistic mother spends her evenings revelling in flamboyant sexual trysts with male escorts, Nance plays out her sexual fantasies with the balletic apparition of Vaslav Nijinsky. Cavalier for Milady thought to be the final portrait of Williams’ mother, sister and himself, and remains his only published yet unproduced one-act play.
In addition to the Jermyn Street production, it is hoped the show will transfer to the Charing Cross Theatre this autumn, presented as a double bill with Williams’ {I Never Get Dressed Till After Dark on Sundays}, which the Cock Tavern premiered in March this year.
Gene David Kirk‘s production of The Two-Character Play starring Catherine Cusack and Paul McEwan will tour to America later this year, playing the Tennessee Williams International Festival in Provincetown in September followed by a production in Newhaven.
Cavalier for Milady is designed by Cherry Truluck with lighting and sound by Phil Hewitt. It is produced by Adam Spreadbury-Maher and Dominic Haddock for Good Night Out Presents.
Currently playing at the Jermyn Street Theatre Howard Goodhall and Charles Hart‘s musical The Kissing Dance continues until 23 April 2011.
