Capital’s Subsidised Theatres Launch Taste Site

Taste Theatre, a new cross-marketing venture by 12 of London’s subsidised theatres, was launched at an event at the Young Vic last night (7 November 2011).

Billed as the only website dedicated solely to promoting producing theatre from the subsidised sector, the project is a collaboration between the Almeida, BAC, Bush, Donmar Warehouse, Greenwich, Hampstead, Lyric Hammersmith, Royal Court, Soho, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Tricycle and Young Vic theatres.

As well as helping potential theatregoers find venues and productions it is hoped the site will go some way to dispel “misconceptions of theatre such as its high cost.”

The launch of the project, which was funded through Arts Council England’s Thrive initiative, comes shortly after a number of London venues announced they would stage a season of work under the World Stages London banner in May next year.

Speaking about the launch David Micklem, joint artistic director of BAC, said in a press statement: “TasteTheatre is a great example of London theatres working together to create something greater than the sum of its parts. We hope this new website is just the start as we look to find new, innovative ways to collaborate in the future – crucial in the current climate and key to the future of subsidised theatre going forward.”
