Bruntwood Playwriting Prize tours UK

The Bruntwood Playwriting Prize is set for an extensive UK theatre tour this autumn starting at the Bush Theatre in London. The award for playwriting will travel between UK theatres to host writing workshops leading up to this year’s competition.

The prize, run in association with the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, began in 2005, seeking out great new plays and writers that has established itself as the UK’s most significant playwriting prize.

The roadshow is designed to discover and promote playwriting to budding and experienced writers in advance of the competition opening in January 2013 entries. Workshops will be led by former prize-winners Vivienne Franzmann, Duncan Macmillan, Ben Musgrave and Andrew Sheridan.

Sarah Frankcom, artistic director of the Royal Exchange, said “We are delighted to be launching a series of writing workshops in partnership with other theatres across the UK. The Royal Exchange Theatre and Bruntwood recognise the importance of supporting and celebrating the development of playwrights and this roadshow offers a fantastic opportunity for playwrights everywhere to discuss and develop their ideas with past winners of the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting.”

The Bruntwood Prize Roadshow will begin on 2 October at the Bush Theatre in London and continues to: Bristol Old Vic (6 October); Birmingham Repertory Theatre (13 October); Hull Truck Theatre (20 October); Liverpool Playhouse Studio (23 October); Tinderbox Theatre Company @ The MAC, Belfast (24 October); Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh (27 October); Sheffield Theatres (10 November); Clwyd Theatre Cymru, Mold (15 November); West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds (17 November); Bush Theatre (20 November); Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester (21 November) and Live Theatre, Newcastle (24 November).
