– After
several anxious months for Hackney Empire, what with much media
speculation surrounding their ‘period of substantially
reduced operation’, it’s very exciting that they
are at least mounting another rip roaring pantomime: this year, in the
shape of Aladdin. With stalwarts Clive Rowe and David Ashley on stage
and Susie McKenna at the helm, it’s sure to be a massive hit
for the Empire, and will no doubt bring a bit of festive cheer to the
whole of East London!
– Perhaps one of the best regional offerings this year is this brand new adaptation of the much loved children’s novel The Secret Garden. Directed for West Yorkshire Playhouse by Ian Brown, this promises to be an enchanting evening for children and adults alike, as the charming story is brought to life by a talented ensemble cast featuring a magical new score. If you can’t make it to Leeds this year, continuring their collaboration, The Secret Garden will be re-grown at Birmingham Rep next Christmas as their current offering A Christmas Carol gets festive at West Yorkshire Playhouse from November 2010.
