Casting has been announced for Women in Power, the new adaptation of Aristophanes' The Assemblywomen.

Blanche McIntyre will direct Lydia Bewley, Elizabeth Boag, Anna Fordham, Lisa Kerr, Anne Odeke and Alicia Mckenzie in an adaptation written by several authors. Wendy Cope, Jenny Eclair, Suhayla El-Bushra, Natalie Haynes, Shappi Khorsandi, Jess Phillips MP and Brona C Titley have written the musical comedy based on the classic Greek play.

Women in Power is set in Athens where the country's recent turmoil means that women are being forced to take matters into their own hands and take over. The piece opens the Bungalow Cafe Festival, a new arts festival in Southampton celebrating 100 years since the first British women won the right to vote.

The show opens on 13 September, with previews from 6 September.
