A bittersweet comedy.Times are tough for the Chambers family. Martin is made redundant after twenty five years of working in the accounts office for a cardboard box company, Ruth joins a phone-sex agency to help make ends meet, their daughter Charon is getting married in three weeks' time, and all their son Alfie wants to do is strip the household of things to take to a charity shop to see Rose a shop-assistant he's fallen for. Alfie thinks his Mum is 'getting off' on the phone-sex job and Martin thinks she's 'different'. She is different. She enjoys it. Until one day a client 'just wants to talk' and Ruth is reminded of something that's haunted her from the past.
