About this show

On the 40th anniversary of Shostakovich's death, the Carducci String Quartet will commemorate the day by presenting his entire quartet catalogue. Recognised as one of today's most successful string quartets, they will bring their musical insight, passion and sensitivity to the 15 works. With a career spanning from the 1930s to the 1970s, Shostakovich's emotionally charged string quartets reflect on a turbulent time in history and are the expression of a composer experiencing the difficulties of life in Soviet Russia, WWII and the Holocaust. This project is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear all 15 quartets played in one day.
