Siân Phillips stars in Arthur Miller's Playing for Time at Sheffield
The play marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz
The production, which is directed by Richard Beecham, marks the centenary of Miller's birth and the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
Phillips plays Fania, whose tragic fate seems sealed when she is transported by the Nazis to Auschwitz. But amidst the horrors of the death camp, there is one small glimmer of hope: an orchestra of women prisoners kept alive to make music for their Nazi captors. Can Fania sing for her survival?
Phillips is joined in the cast by Kate Adams, Noa Bodner, Pascale Burgess, Imogen Daines, Emma Darlow, Holly De Jong, James Duke, Amanda Hadingue, Melanie Heslop, Rebecca Jenkins, Kate Lynn-Evans, Maeve O'Sullivan, Danny Scheinmann, Augustina Seymour, Christopher Staines and Alexia Traverse-Healy.
Completing the cast are 17 members of Sheffield People's Theatre - the theatre's intergenerational acting company from across the region.
Playing for Time runs in the Crucible from 12 March to 4 April 2015.
