New play about Screaming Lord Sutch to open in Plymouth

Theatre Royal Plymouth's new season will feature a brand new comedy about Screaming Lord Sutch, the 3rd Earl of Harrow and the founder of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party.

James Graham's new play Monster Raving Loony will follow the life and exploits of the British eccentric, who was also a musician who worked with the likes of Keith Moon, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. Graham, whose previous works include political hits This House, The Vote at the Donmar Warehouse and Tory Boyz, will look at the identity of Britain post-war through the eyes of Lord Sutch. Artistic Director Simon Stokes will direct the play, which will run from 6 – 27 February next year,

Elsewhere in the season, there will be a world premiere of a new Phil Porter play The Man with the Hammer on March 10, which will be directed by Justin Audibert. The piece will look at the popularity of cycling in Britain through the story of Jodie and her father, Tony.

Beginning the season next year are a series of readings of four contemporary Russian plays in London. Power, Politics and Performance in Russia is a co-production between Theatre Royal Plymouth, Frontline Club and Sputnik Theatre Company.

Jack Thorne's Edinburgh hit The Solid Life of Sugar Water will also arrive in Plymouth on 20 January before a seven-venue run.
