Rebecca Trehearn to star in Sweet Charity at Nottingham Playhouse
The Olivier Award-winning actress will star in the title role in Bill Buckhurst's production
Further casting has been announced for Sweet Charity, which runs at the Nottingham Playhouse later this year.
Trehearn's theatre credits include Floyd Collins (Wilton's Music Hall), City of Angels (Donmar Warehouse) and Show Boat (Sheffield Crucible and West End) for which she won the Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.
With choreography by Alistair David (Show Boat), Cy Coleman's musical is based on Federico Fellini's screenplay for Nights of Cabiria and tells of Charity Hope Valentine, a dance partner-for-hire at a seedy dance hall in New York City. It features the songs "If My Friends Could See Me Now" and "Too Many Tomorrows".
The production is part of Adam Penford's first season as artistic director of Nottingham Playhouse, other highlights include Mark Gatiss in a new revival of Alan Bennett's The Madness of George III and Beth Steel's Wonderland, which opens next week.
Sweet Charity runs at Nottingham Playhouse from 31 August to 22 September 2018.
