Ramin Karimloo, watch your back! This year’s X Factor victor Joe McElderry is keen to make his West End debut in an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. “If the offer was there (from Lloyd Webber), I certainly wouldn’t turn it down, I’ll tell you that,” McElderry told Now magazine. “There’s nothing wrong with musical theatre. Some of the biggest singers in the world are there.”
Other X Factor contestants who’ve made their mark on the West End have included Niki Evans, Maria Lawson, Brenda Edwards and Diana Vickers, who won this year’s Whatsonstage.com Award for Newcomer of the Year for The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.
Lloyd Webber, of course, is not averse to finding stars via reality TV. So perhaps when it comes time to recasting Love Never Dies, in which Karimloo stars as the Phantom, McElderry could just be in with a chance?
