Priscilla on Comic Relief – One of the many highlights of this year’s Comic Relief was the appearance of the cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical, which opens at the Palace Theatre next week (23 March, previews from 10 March). Here, the ‘girls’ strut their stuff to “I Will Survive”, one of the many disco classics featured in the show. And purists don’t be alarmed – the lip-synching is wholly intentional…
Fame on tour – A new UK tour of the perennially popular 1980s musical Fame recently launched, starring former X Factor contestant Beverley Trotman. This better-than-average trailer features interviews with Trotman and her fellow cast members and contains plenty of enthusiastic harmonising for good measure.
Insights into Gethsemane – If leg warmers aren’t really your thing, another show currently touring is the National Theatre’s production of David Hare’s Gethsemane. Here, cast members Anthony Calf, Stanley Townsend, Tamsin Greig and Jessica Raine share their thoughts on the play, which divided critics back in November (See Review Round-up, 12 Nov 2008).
Kathryn Hunter in Kafka’s Monkey – Kafka’s A Report To An Academy has been adapted by Colin Teevan into Kafka’s Monkey, which opens at the Young Vic this week (19 March 2009, previews from 14 March). Acclaimed actress Kathryn Hunter stars as an ape in the drama, billed as a “witty and heart rending tale of forced assimilation into an alien culture”. This video takes a peak behind the scenes as Hunter prepares for the role.
