With Avenue Q officially reopening at the Gielgud Theatre tonight (30 June 2009, previews from 1 June), Whatsonstage.com TV got an exclusive tour of their new home with the show’s stars Julie Atherton and Daniel Boys – aka Kate Monster and Princeton.
The puppet musical, billed as an adult version of Sesame Street, enjoyed nearly three years at the Noël Coward Theatre from June 2006 until it closed there on 28 March this year (See Photos, 9 Mar 2009).

For Whatsonstage.com, our TV editor Ian Miller went along to meet Julie Atherton and Daniel Boys (both of whom were cast members at the Noël Coward) and get their thoughts on the new venue, where the show is initially booking to 26 September.

Avenue Q originally premiered Off-Broadway in 2004, going on to win three Tony Awards that year. It features a score by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, and a book by Jeff Whitty, with puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon, musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, and choreography by Ken Roberson. Amongst the London show’s accolades, it won the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Best Ensemble Performance.
