Last night (23 August) over 120 theatregoers joined us for an excellent Whatsonstage.com Outing to the concert performance of Guys and Dolls at Cadogan Hall.
Starring Ruthie Henshall, Anna-Jane Casey, Graham Bickley, Gavin Spokes and last-minute addition Lance Ellington, all narrated by Dennis Waterman, this concert performance contains much more production than you might expect with dance numbers, full costume and projections.
A classic Broadway musical, Guys and Dolls is set in New York and tells the story of a group of small time gamblers and the ladies in their lives. With a wonderful score and classic songs “Luck Be A Lady”, “Sit Down You’re Rocking The Boat”, “If I Were A Bell”, “Sue Me”, “I’ve Never Been in Love Before” and “Take Back Your Mink”, it had many members of the audience tapping their toes throughout.
Ellington, who stood in for Tim Howar at the last minute, does well taking the lead role of Sky Masterson and romancing the ever-delightful Casey while Henshall is hilarious as Miss Adelaide.
Following the performance we were joined by all the main cast members who were happy to sign programmes and chat with Whatsonstage.com theatregoers all about being involved in this show and the unique challenges that a concert performance presents. A cast that seems to be having a fantastic time on stage carried on their enthusiasm and cheer well into the meet and greet.
And a little surprise treat for the evening, Nathan James, a contestant on ITV’s Superstar casting series, was one of our theatregoers as well!
Please do email any photos of the event you might have or comments about last night to club@whatsonstage.com.
