Current James Bond Daniel Craig has revealed that he’d like his next acting project to be a play. Speaking to The Sun newspaper at the premiere of his new film Defiance, Craig said: “If a play came along now I would jump at it. I’m very keen on doing new writing. I’ve always kind of been doing new writing with plays and that’s where my heart is.”

However, don’t expect the 007 star to swap his tuxedo for a pair of tights anytime soon, as Craig admitted he wasn’t keen on tackling a classic. “Not that I don’t think that doing the classics is a wonderful idea, but Shakespeare’s got too many lines … I like newer media stuff.”

Craig is certainly not short of stage experience, having tread the boards on a number of occassions prior to becoming the sixth actor to play Bond in 2005. His credits include Hurlyburly at the Old Vic, Angels in America at the National and A Number at the Royal Court, in which he starred opposite Michael Gambon.

The news of his possible return to theatre will no doubt be music to the ears of West End producers and Craig fans alike, many of whom will no doubt be hoping he goes the way of his fellow film star and namesake Daniel Radcliffe and bares more than just his soul on stage.
