Our good partners at Time Out have come up trumps for Theatreland this week. The new issue of Time Out magazine, out today (22 March 2012), is the “West End Rules!” issue.
The weekly magazine features an exclusive interview with cover boy and former Whatsonstage.com Award winner David Suchet on the eve of his return to the stage next month in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night. Amongst other things, Suchet talks about his Fleet Street photographer grandfather, the secret to never being out of work, his favourite (less obvious) Shakespeare roles, the popularity of Poirot, and why he had to play James Tyrone now or never.
We especially like Suchet’s answer about what London means to him: “I think it is the greatest city in the world, and, having played in most other cities, I know that it is the greatest city in the world for theatre. There are more venues per square mile here than anywhere else.”
Quite right. And further proved by Time Out theatre editor Caroline McGinn’s in-depth four-page feature about the current healthy state of the West End, both commercially and creatively – which draws nicely on data from Whatsonstage.com.
In this week’s magazine, the Time Out team also re-review the top long-runners – which, as we know from our recent Big Debate poll, are the productions that keep the West End alive, according to nine out of ten of you – and provide a run-down of the best drama openings this spring.
Also in the new Time Out magazine are an interview with Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, and all the other Regular sections and listings to help readers get the most out of the capital: The week in London, Shopping & Style, Food & Drink, Travel, Around Town & Kids, Art, Books, Clubbing, Cabaret, Dance, Film, DVD, Gay & Lesbian, Music, Classical, Time In, and Slice of Life.
The 22-28 March 2012 issue of Time Out magazine is on sale now in all good newsagents, priced £3.25.
