Rumours are flying about the upcoming Legally Blonde cast change with Sheridan Smith, who plays Elle until 23 October 2010, and Jill Halfpenny who plays Paulette, both leaving the production. Recent rumours that Laura Bell Bundy – who played Elle on Broadway – could be joining the cast may be upset by stories that the country singer has landed a recurring role on hit American sitcom How I Met Your Mother. West End gossip currently has former Chicago and Tell Me on a Sunday star Denise Van Outen lined up to take the role of Paulette, the dog loving hairdresser who seeks an Irish soulmate. The production, which is currently booking until 20 February 2011, is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, who has apparently returned to audition for the new cast. We reported yesterday on Jill Halfpenny‘s three-night break from the show next month to star in The Great British Songbook accompanied by fellow Legally Blonde cast member Chris Ellis-Stanton. Should Van Outen take the role it would be her first since having her first child, a daughter, with Wicked star Lee Mead.
