I’d love to open this review with some sort of pithy fish pun, but
unfortunately for me The Boom Jennies use them all up during the
course of their show. We Want Action follows the United
Campaigners on Ocean Conservation (UCOC), who lead the war against
over-fishing one ineptitude at a time. Their unlikely foursome is
doomed to fail from the start – which, of course, makes for a really
fun comedy show.

Lizzie Bates and Anna Emerson are especially hilarious, giving the
kind of stand-out performances that are all the more necessary in a
comedy play as opposed to a sketch format. However, while the acting
is strong enough to carry a long-form piece such as this, the script
could use a bit more development to ensure proper cohesion between
scenes. The plot feels a little stop/start; given the claustrophobia
of the environment, the scene breaks make what could be a tight and
sparky narrative seem rather disjointed. Despite this, the jokes are
strong and the troupe show excellent promise.
