Eastbourne’s pantomime for 2012 is the family favourite, Sleeping Beauty, which tells the story of the beautiful princess who is cursed by the evil Carabosse to sleep for 100 years and can only be awoken by true love’s kiss. The Devonshire Park Theatre has announced that Bernie Nolan will be starring as the evil villainess.
Bernie is no stranger to Eastbourne she recently starred in the hit West End show Chicago at the Congress Theatre, and made her first Eastbourne appearance at the same theatre 34 years ago in summer season with Ronnie Corbett.
As lead singer of the Nolan Sisters, Bernie conquered the pop charts with hits including: “I’m in the Mood for Dancing”, “Don’t Make Waves”, “Attention to Me” and “Gotta Pull Myself Together”. The Nolan’s sold millions of records worldwide, particularly in Japan where they sold over nine million albums.
She went onto become one of the nations favourite personalities on stage and TV in shows including Brookside and The Bill. She regularly performs in smash hit West End shows including; Flashdance and Blood Brothers where her devastatingly moving performances always brought standing ovations.
During her time in the town Bernie said: “I love coming to Eastbourne, it’s such a lovely place with lovely people and Beachy Head is truly awesome. I love appearing in pantomime; Christmas is such a special time to spend with family. I live around an hour and half away from Eastbourne so I will be able to see my family over the festive period which will be wonderful!”
Of performing in pantomime she added: “What I love most about appearing in pantomime is that it’s such fun and a little less serious than a straight play or a musical, but given the choice I’d much rather play a Baddie, Goodies are boring!”
Sleeping Beauty can be seen at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne from 13 Dec – 13 Jan 2013, with some performances already almost sold out.
