An intriguing invitation arrived at the Whatsonstage.com offices today. We are invited to attend a press briefing midday on Monday (22 November 2010) to launch a “new West End production” at the Vaudeville Theatre. No hints or names are given, but “the writer, director, cast and producers” will be on hand… With such scant information, we must assume it’s something very big and starry indeed! What do you reckon? Amongst recent rumours of high-profile shows aiming for a spring West End opening are Neil LaBute’s reasons to be pretty (though, that’s more likely to go to an ATG venue), tipped to star Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera and Julia Stiles, and the Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet. Or perhaps it’ll be another Old Vic co-production to open direct in the West End, like the Jeff Goldblum-led The Prisoner of Second Avenue, which ran at the Vaudeville this past summer? The Vaudeville’s current production, Lindsay Posner’s revival of Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband, opened last week and is currently booking through to 19 February 2011. We’ll be there on Monday to solve the mystery…
