West Yorkshire Playhouse are this Christmas staging a major revival of the 1977 Broadway musical Annie, billed as the show’s first in ten years, with a cast that includes Duncan Preston, Verity Rushworth, Sarah Ingram and Emma Barton.

Nikolai Foster‘s production, which opened at the Quarry Theatre on 30 November 2011 (previews from 21 November), is led by Leed’s locals Sophie Downham and Phoebe Roberts who share the title role.

The production recently announced it has extended its run at West Yorkshire Playhouse, citing “popular demand, exceptional word of mouth and sensational critical reception” with performances now playing through to 21 January 2012.

WYP associate Nikolai Foster is reunited with designer Colin Richmond for the production. The pair collaborated on last year’s Playhouse production of A Christmas Carol.
