EastEnders’ star Ruth Gemmell has joined the cast of a Sheffield Theatres’ forthcoming revival of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, which runs in the Crucible Theatre from 17 May to 9 June 2012.

Directed by Nick Bagnall, the production stars John Simm as Jerry, with Gemmell taking on the role of his lover Emma. The cast also features Colin Tierney as Robert and Thomas Tinker as Waiter.

In Betrayal, Pinter’s innovative use of reverse chronology traces back the intricate details of a love affair conducted under a veil of dishonesty and deception.

The casting decision comes after the news that Juliet Aubrey has left the production due to unforeseen circumstances.

Gemmell is best known for playing the recurring character of Debra in EastEnders and for co-starring with Colin Firth in the film Fever Pitch. Her stage credits include Coram Boy at the National and the RSC’s productions of King Lear and Macbeth.
