Comedian Rufus Hound is set to star in Utopia, the latest artistic collaboration between Newcastle’s Live Theatre and Soho Theatre.

Hound, star of television panel shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and 8 Out of 10 Cats, will feature alongside Spooks actress Sophia Myles as well as Tobi Bakare, Laura Elphinstone, Pamela Miles and David Whitaker.

Artistic directors Steve Marmion and Max Roberts take the reins of the production, which depicts “six clowns in a world of blueprints in search of Utopia”.

The play has been created by a team of writers including Black Books star Dylan Moran and Scottish playwright Anthony Neilson. Michael Chaplin, Zoe Cooper, Thomas Eccleshare, Alistair McDowall, Janice Okoh, Simon Stephens and Chi Onwurah MP complete the writing team.

Utopia premieres at the Live Theatre in Newcastle on 31 May 2012. It then transfers to the Soho Theatre from 2 June to 14 July. This new work follows the success of Marmion and Roberts’ previous collaboration A Walk on Part, which is set to transfer to the West End Arts Theatre on 18 June.
