The revival of Charles Dyer’s 1962 comedy Rattle of a Simple Man that opened at the Comedy Theatre on 11 May (following previews from 6 May) has posted an early closing notice. Originally booking to 28 August, it will now close on 5 June, after a run of just four weeks.

The play, directed by John Caird and featuring television actors Michelle Collins and Stephen Tompkinson, revolves around a 42-year-old single football fan from Manchester who has a date with a London prostitute.
Collins, who made her West End debut in the production, is best known for her long-running role as Cindy Beale in television’s EastEnders.
Tompkinson, known from TV series such as Ballykissangel, Drop the Dead Donkey and Grafters, was previously seen in the West End in Art and Arsenic and Old Lace.

It is the latest high-profile production to have a truncated run of under a month, after the recent failures of Michael Hastings’ Calico and Simon Gray’s The Holy Terror.
