Critically acclaimed theatre company Cheap Seats bring the world
premiere of their new production, Plain Jane, to the Royal Exchange
Theatre next week.

‘I want to break her.’ Jane is the new girl at an exclusive boarding school. She wasn’t popular at her old school, and she’s doing even worse with her new roommates. Awkward and naïve, she soon falls prey to the vicious games of Becki and Holly, who are determined to rip her to pieces before term ends.

Written by award-winning, Manchester-based playwright Alistair McDowall, and directed by Clive Judd, the play is a black comedy with teeth. The play touches upon aspects of teenage bullying, sexuality and friendship when Jane, an awkward and naive 15 year old, enters a world she is just not prepared for.

McDowall is quickly establishing a reputation as one of the most exciting young playwrights in the region, whilst Judd (Director’s Guild Award for Most Promising Director at NSDF 2009) has most recently enjoyed success as assistant director on the multi-award winning Punk Rock and as co-director of Some Stories. Plain Jane stars Elisabeth Hopper, Caitlin Joseph, Paul Sockett, Sally Hodgkiss and Sarah Winter.

Plain Jane runs at the Royal Exchange Theatre Studio space from 19 – 23 October 2010.
