Central London dance school The Place celebrated its 40th anniversary with a gala performance last night (20 May 2010).

Set up in a converted Drill Hall by Robin Howard, who lost both his legs fighting in the Second World War, the venue has become a leader in the field of contemporary dance, counting Matthew BourneRichard Alston and Siobhan Davies (who were in attendance last night) as alumni.
