Opening: Filter Sisters, Enron, Godot, Wet Weather

OPENING TUESDAY, 26 January 2010 (previews from 16 January) Enron, Lucy Prebble’s award-winning epic about the bankrupt US energy company, starring Samuel West, transfers to the Noel Coward Theatre, after sell-out runs at the Royal Court and Chichester (See News, 21 Sep 2009).

ALSO ON TUESDAY, James Graham’s The Whisky Taster, about two go-getting advertising executives who hire an old Scottish Whisky Taster to help them with a new campaign, premieres at the Bush Theatre, directed by James Grieve. Until 20 February.

OPENING WEDNESDAY, 27 January 2010 (previews from 21 January), Sean Mathias’ acclaimed revival of Beckett’s Waiting for Godot returns to the Theatre Royal Haymarket, with Roger Rees replacing Patrick Stewart as Vladimir opposite Ian McKellen‘s Estragon. Ronald Pickup returns as Lucky, and Matthew Kelly takes over from Simon Callow as Pozzo (See News, 23 Nov 2009).

ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, after an extended season in the West End, Calendar Girls heads back out on the road with its original Miss October, Lynda Bellingham, leading the cast and opening at Chichester Festival Theatre, where the screen-to-stage adaptation premiered in September 2008 (See News, 6 Jan 2009).

ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, Hannah Khalil’s Plan D, based on oral testimonies from Palestinians who lived through the 1948 conflict, opens at the Tristan Bates theatre, where it continues until 13 February.

OPENING THURSDAY, 28 January 2010 (previews from 20 January), Michael Brandon and Steve Furst star in the premiere of Oliver Cotton’s debut play Wet Weather Cover, about the trials of two actors stuck in inclement weather on a film location, at the King’s Head. Directed by Kate Fahy (making her directorial debut), it continues to 21 February 2010.  

ALSO ON THURSDAY, Katie Mitchell’s adaptation of Dr Seuss’s popular children’s story  The Cat in the Hat transfers from the National to the Young Vic (See News, 13 Oct 2009), where it runs until 13 March 2010.

OPENING FRIDAY, 29 January 2010, John Godber’s multiple character comedy Bouncers is revived at Leicester Square Theatre, where it continues to 6 March 2010.
