One man show Morecambe visits Liverpool’s Playhouse in March, following its critically acclaimed West End run.
From Morecambe pier to ‘André Preview’, from tumbleweed to Glenda Jackson, Morecambe offers a funny insight into the man and the performer and his unique partnership with Ernie Wise.
Bob Golding takes on the role of Morecambe in a moving portrait of an affectionate lad with funny bones, a born entertainer and big-hearted perfectionist.
Golding has won an army of admirers and rave reviews for his portrayal of Morecambe. These include some of the country’s favourite comedians who have been bowled over by the actor’s extraordinary likeness to the man himself, many of whom were Morecambe’s contemporaries and friends.
Morecambe’s daughter, Gail, said: “This show is a great homage to my father and to his relationship with Ernie. I left the theatre feeling privileged to be Eric Morecambe’s daughter. Now all these years on Bob Golding’s performance and Tim Whitnall‘s writing, in a completely unsentimental way, fill the theatre with good will.”
In 1977 The Morecambe and Wise Christmas Special attracted 29 million viewers, which was half the entire population of the UK at the time. Thirty three years later his popularity has not waned.
Morecambe visits the Liverpool Playhouse from Monday 8 to Saturday 13 March.
To celebrate the one man show Morecambe coming to Liverpool a special event has also been organised for Saturday 6 March in Williamson Square, Liverpool city centre at 12 noon.
The public are being invited to download an Eric Morecambe mask from the Everyman & Playhouse website and join representatives of the theatre outside the Playhouse to create a sea of Morecambe’s before joining in with a rendition of the song made famous by the comedian, ‘Bring Me Sunshine’.
