The Edinburgh Festival hit, Me, Mum and Dusty Springfield heads to the Lowry in February. Starring Stephanie Ridings, this one-woman-show focuses on Mary who is getting ready for the scattering of her mother’s ashes.
The Dusty link is down to her mother’s dying wish – or should that be final demand? Mary’s life was filled with her mother’s demands set within a world of Dusty Springfield. Not just Dusty’s songs, but Dusty’s outbursts, her drinking and finally her breast cancer. As Mary applies the thick layers of make-up learnt after years of watching her mother, she tries to unravel the ties that bind herself, her mother and Dusty Springfield, in the hope that this final act will enable her to move on.
Me, Mum and Dusty Springfield is a black comedy sprinkled with Dusty lyrics and coated with a song or two. This one woman show reflects upon the bond that binds mothers & daughters together, people who are not quite what they seem and how we cope with loss when it’s just too late.
Me, Mum and Dusty Springfield is at the Lowry Studio from 12 – 13 February. For further details, visit Stephanie Ridings‘ website.
