Legrand Concert Gives Marguerite Sneak Peek???

Another key date for your diary at the Theatre Royal Haymarket: Sunday 13 April 2008. That’s when, jazz legend and triple Oscar-winning composer Michel Legrand will give a rare, one-night only London concert, just prior to the opening of his world premiere musical Marguerite at the same address. Legrand’s guest performers at the concert will be Marguerite stars Ruthie Henshall and Julian Ovenden, as well as French singer and actress Marie Zamora who, in recent years, has featured in Legrand concerts around the world.

Composer, arranger, conductor and pianist Michel Legrand has composed over 200 film scores including The Thomas Crown Affair (“The Windmills of Your Mind”) and Summer of ‘42 as well as several musicals including Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Yentl, which have won him three Oscars and five Grammys. He was 22 when his first album, I Love Paris, became one of the best-selling instrumental albums ever released. His albums now number over 100 – spanning jazz, musical theatre, variety and classical styles – on which he has worked with Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Jack Jones, Regine Velasquez, Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Lena Horne, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, James Ingram, Johnny Mathis, Barbra Streisand and many others.

Marguerite runs at the Haymarket from 20 May to 1 November 2008 (previews from 7 May) as the final production in the in-house season of work programmed and directed by Jonathan Kent (See News, 30 Jan 2008).
