Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig isn’t the only theatre production generating sizeist stories in the press this week. A bit of a tabloid frenzy has kicked off today over Andrew Lloyd Webber’s revelation to the Mirror that Oliver! producer Cameron Mackintosh apparently believes Jodie Prenger, one of the three finalists competing to win the role of Nancy via TV’s I’d Do Anything, is too hefty to cope with the demands of the job at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane (See News, 27 May 2008).
Lloyd Webber is quoted as saying: “Cameron thinks she (Jodie) is a bit too big and has more or less said so.” However, Mackintosh may have to make do. Jodie is currently the bookies’ favourite to win out over fellow finalists Jessie Buckley and Samantha Barks in tomorrow night’s live final on BBC One.
