Iain Glen’s production of Ibsen’s Ghosts has posted early closing notices for this month at the West End’s Duchess Theatre (See News, 4 Sep 2009).
The production opened on 23 February 2010 (previews from 8 February) and had been booking through to 15 May. It will now finish on 27 March. Glen, a leading actor, made his directorial debut with the production, in which he also co-stars with Lesley Sharp. The cast also features Malcolm Storry, Harry Treadaway and Jessica Raine.
Set in the Norwegian fjordland, the drama in Ibsen’s 1881 classic, in a new version here by Frank McGuinness, takes place in Mrs Alving’s country house, where she is preparing for the opening of an orphanage, a memorial to her late husband. Mrs Alving’s son Oswald, an artist, returns home for the celebrations. A story of love, betrayal and hypocrisy gradually unfolds as ghosts from the past come back to haunt the family.
The next production scheduled for the Duchess Theatre is the new West End revamp of the record-breaking Off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks, which opens on 9 June (previews from 24 May) with a cast including Clive Rowe, David Burt and Hadley Fraser (See WOS TV, 1 Mar 2010).
