Finborough Theatre Announces Winter Season of New Plays

This winter at the Finborough is devoted to the New Writing at the Finborough season, including the culmination of its partnership with Papatango theatre company’s playwriting competition.

The season opens with the world premiere, on 1 November 2011, of Fanta Orange, a new play by Sally Woodcock which is directed by newly appointed artistic director of the Salisbury Playhouse, Gareth Machin.

Iain Finlay Macleod is one of Scotland’s most successful Scots Gaelic writers, and his play Atman will be performed on Sundays and Mondays throughout November. Atman tells the story of a lonely man, A, who works in a library. One day he goes through the wrong door and finds a book retelling his life in minute detail. His psychiatrist suggests that he writes in the book to see what happens and see if it will help him. The play was first performed by Tosg Theatre Company on a Highlands tour and this will be its premiere in the English language.

The winner of the Papatango Playwriting Festival 2011, Foxfinder by Dawn King, will be performed from 29 November to 23 December 2011, with the three runners-up also being staged. Through the Night by Matt Morrison will run from 6 December to 11 December 2011, Rigor Mortis by Carol Vine will be performed 13 December to 18 December 2011, and audiences can see Crush by Rob Young from 19 to 23 December 2011.

The season will end with a new play by Tash Fairbanks and Toby Wharton, Fog, which will run from 3 to 28 January 2012. And following a successful UK tour and run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival the Finborough will host the London premiere of Sometimes I Laugh Like My Sister, written and performed by Rebecca Peyton.
