In a few short years online networking has become an accepted part of our social lives, so it is no wonder that Zeitgeist Theatre company, who focus on staging new plays that challenge modern times, have chosen Facebook as the theme for January’s World at One series in association with the King’s Head Theatre. Staged with a new theme every two months, the one hour lunch time show includes three plays on the chosen theme. Past themes have included Asylum and Immigration, Credit Nation, Land and Property and National Disasters.
The Facebook themed World at One series will appear at the King’s Head Theatre from 21 to 25 January 2009 at 1pm, with a special one off evening performance on Saturday 24 January at 9.30pm. Facebook is a free-access, privately owned social networking site which is thought to be the largest of its kind with an estimated 124 million users. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 while he was attending Harvard University.
Zeitgeist Theatre is headed by artistic director and political journalist and playwright Zia Trench, who aims to create relevant, issue-led theatre. The World at One series encourages writers to work in a team to devise a script. They then have eight weeks to write and produce a play which tackles the issues that people are talking about.
