Following the Royal Exchange Studio’s prior transformation into a Pub, the theatre’s latest project involves The Studio becoming a whole house in an exciting new project curated by their Education Department.
From Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 January, Exchange Education presents Making An Exhibition Of Ourselves (At Home). This unique Free event that has seen contributions from schools, community groups, artists and even a call to the general public.
Curated and designed by Amanda Stoodley (Co-Designer for Pub), this latest venture has commissioned and invited groups and individuals from across Greater Manchester to submit ideas, create practical installations and complete fun activities all under the theme of ‘home’, the place we’re most likely to kick off our shoes and be ourselves; the place we make a private exhibition of our lives. Following on from months of workshops and courses, the exhibition will finally be unveiled to audiences, who are invited to make themselves at home and take a look behind others’ front doors.
The exhibits include a bedroom Blanket of Dreams by school children in Oldham, a secret world inside the kitchen fridge, an interactive sideboard co-curated by artist Sonia Hughes, and instead of a walk-in wardrobe, Benchill Children’s Centre have gone one better by having a walk-through wardrobe into a magical world of transformation.
Making An Exhibition Of Ourselves (At Home) is launched tomorrow and runs from Thurs 14 – Sat 16 Jan at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
