With the Shaftesbury Theatre currently dark following the premature closure of Flashdance last month, speculation is mounting regarding the West End venue’s next resident. One possibility for the summer is illusionist Derren Brown, whose latest show Svengali tours the UK from March to June. Brown has previously enjoyed sell-out runs (and a Whatsonstage.com Award) for shows at the Garrick and Adelphi Theatres, in 2008 and 2009 respectively, so would be a good bet to fill seats over the summer months.

It’s thought that both Rebecca and Me and My Girl have withdrawn interest in the troubled Shaftesbury recently, though hope is on the horizon in the shape of Broadway hit Rock of Ages, rumoured to be rocking up there later in the year.
