Dates have been officially announced for the new UK tour of classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats, which, as previously reported, launches in 2013.

The production will kick off on 8 February 2013 from the Edinburgh Playhouse,
before continuing to Aberdeen, Wolverhampton, Manchester, Bradford,
Hull, Sunderland, Southampton, Milton Keynes, Woking, Ostend and Dublin.

Chrissie Cartwright will direct the show, which rose to fame under the helm of director Trevor Nunn. Cartwright’s staging will also ‘recreate’ Gillian Lynne‘s original choreography and John Napier‘s set design.

Word of the tour was first let slip when the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre included performances in its season brochure, and today Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group (RUG) posted a full announcement on its website.

RUG has also stated that more dates, and venue details would be announced closer to the time.

The show, last seen in the UK on its 2008 tour, was the longest-running musical on the West End when it closed in 2002 after over 9,000 performances. With performances in over 300 cities and total audiences estimated to exceed 50million, it is among the most-viewed shows of all time.
