The original preview date for Jonathan Harvey’s new play Canary has been cancelled and will now be Saturday 24 April.

In a statement released today, the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse said: “It is with great regret that, due to a family bereavement for a member of the Company, we have had to cancel the first preview performance of Canary on Friday 23 April at 7.30pm at the Liverpool Playhouse.

“Liverpool writer Jonathan Harvey’s major new play, will now open on Saturday 24 April. Our Box Office team is currently contacting customers to have their bookings transferred to a performance of their choice.”

Canary stars veteran actress Paula Wilcox (See News, 8 Mar 2010) and explores politics, policing and attitudes towards sexuality over the last five decades.

The play has been written by award-winning Harvey (Gimme Gimme Gimme and Coronation Street) and is being directed by Hettie Macdonald.

Canary has a parental guidance and is suitable for those aged 16 years old and over as it contains scenes and images of a sexual nature, nudity and adult language.

It runs at the Liverpool Playhouse until Saturday 15 May.
