Legally Blonde will be following a new performance schedule come September, with Sunday performances becoming a thing of the past. The show’s producers have announced that the last Sunday show will be 5 September 2010, after which they’ll be replaced by Tuesday evening performances from 14 September. Elle Woods and friends aren’t the only one, who’ll be regaining a bit of their weekend this autumn. As previously reported, Priscilla Queen of the Desert will also be discontinuing Sunday performances after they return from their two-week summer break on 20 September. When the National Theatre pioneered Sunday matinees back in autumn 2008, it seemed like only a matter of time before the whole of the West End was open for business seven days a week. In spite of lengthy negotiations between producers and unions to allow the performances in the West End, these moves suggest that Sunday openings may not be as popular beyond the South Bank.
