Plans to premiere a musical version of Rebecca at the Shaftesbury Theatre this spring have apparently been scuppered by an unforeseen technical issue. According to the Daily Mail, the designer’s wish that the set “rise up from the bowels of the building” was dashed by the discovery of an “ancient stream” running under the theatre. So producers are now on the lookout for another London venue, but if nothing comes available, may well turn their attention to Broadway. American Sierra Boggess, who finishes playing Christine in Love Never Dies on 12 March, is due to take part in a reading of the long-rumoured page-to-stage show, which may now be delayed until the autumn.
