Adam Garcia will play Bill Calhoun in Trevor Nunn‘s upcoming revival of Kiss Me Kate at Chichester Festival Theatre, according to reports.
Australian Garcia made his London debut in 1993 with Hot Shoe Shuffle, a tap dance show, and went on to star in Grease and Saturday Night Fever.
It was his performance as Tony Manero in Fever that earned him a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. He returned to musicals in 2006 to join the cast of Wicked as Fiyero alongside Idina Menzel and starred in Tap Dogs in 2010.
While away from the stage, Garcia has starred Hollywood films such as Coyote Ugly and Riding in Cars with Boys and appeared on television in Doctor Who.
This year’s Chichester Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary with a season of returning directors and actors. Among them is director Trevor Nunn, who will be directing Kiss Me Kate from 27 June to 1 September 2012 (previews from 18 June).
Cole Porter’s musical, a version of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, will be newly staged by Nunn and choreographer Stephen Mear.
