A modern-dress production of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, starring Rachael Stirling (Tipping the Velvet, Hotel Babylon on television, Theatre of Blood at the National) and Oliver Chris (The Office and Green Wing on television), opened at Wilton’s Music Hall last night (22 March 2007, following previews from 19 March).

The play – thought to be one of the Bard’s most challenging comedies – is directed by Nick Hutchison. It centres on bad tempered Katherine (Stirling) and her father’s attempts to marry her off to anyone who will take her. Luckily for him, Petruchio (Chris) comes along looking for a rich young woman to marry, and vows to make Katherine his bride and tame her shrewish nature.
