August Wilson’s modern classic Joe Turner’s Come and Gone opened at the Young Vic last night (3 June 2010, previews from 27 May), with a cast including Delroy Lindo, who starred in the play’s original Broadway cast in 1988.

The play, an account of a people’s recovery from the trauma of slavery,
won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play when first
performed on Broadway. Lindo was nominated for a Tony Award for his
portrayal of Herald Loomis (he plays the part of Bynum Walker at
the Young Vic, Loomis is played by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith).

First night guests included Welsh actor Michael Sheen, who will play Hamlet at the Young Vic towards the end of 2011 (See News, 13 May 2010).
