After finishing her performance in The Misanthrope last night, Keira Knightley nipped across town to the first night party of The Little Dog Laughed to support her beau Rupert Friend, who plays Mitchell in the UK premiere of Douglas Carter Beane’s Tony Award-winning Broadway comedy.
The Little Dog Laughed, which is currently booking at the Garrick Theatre until 10 April 2010, is a cautionary tale of Hollywood film actor Mitchell who wants to come out of the closet, his agent Diane (Greig) who wants him to stay in it and the love triangle created when Mitch falls for rent boy Alex, who has a girlfriend named Ellen (Arterton).

David Grindley’s production of John Guare’s Olivier Award-winning
play Six Degrees of Separation starring Lesley Manville, Anthony Head and Obi Abili, also celebrated its opening night this week (19 January 2010, previews from 7 January). The Old Vic revival marks the first major London production of the play in 18 years (See
News, 5 Jun 2009).
Billed as a “sharp, vivacious take on two worlds colliding”, the
play is inspired by the real-life story of a flamboyant con artist who
managed to convince wealthy residents of Manhattan’s Upper East Side he
was the son of Sidney Poitier. Head and Manville are the affluent
couple, John and Louise Kittredge, and Obili is the social-climbing
interloper Paul.
